Inner Sight

My primary focus here was to depict a deeply peaceful expression. Once the painting was mostly complete, I thought about how to suggest what was going on in her mind. That's when the extra eye showed up, denoting a different kind of vision, an inner vision.

At the time, I was painting a lot of white hair and white coverings, and I liked how that lightness allowed the warmth and life in the skin to come forward. .
